Our Story

KCE Consulting, formerly known as Knutton Consulting, was established in 1993 by Simon Knutton. Starting from humble beginnings, with a home-based office, the company steadily grew its client base by specializing in geotechnical investigations and concrete retaining block designs.

A few months after the company's establishment, Ian joined as a contractor to handle the detailing for a number of secured steel projects. During that time, Ian was also contracted to work with the Johannesburg City Council's Architectural and Engineering Departments. As more work flowed in, Ian was eventually offered a permanent staff position.

Services

As the company continued to grow, we expanded our offerings from geotechnical investigations to include civil engineering services, earthworks, and top structures. This diversity proved to be a key factor in our success, allowing us to adapt to changing industry trends, market demands, and economic conditions. Over time, we took on a wide range of industrial, residential, and commercial projects of varying sizes, including unique and unconventional projects such as the founding and support steelwork for the Tower of Terror at Gold Reef City.

In 2017, Knutton Consulting underwent a rebranding and since then, we have been consistently expanding our expertise and knowledge. With over three decades of experience, Managing Director, Simon Knutton personally oversees every project. Our design team, led by Director Ian Dewsbury, is based in Johannesburg and handles all aspects of design, with a strong emphasis on structures. Meanwhile, Nigel Barr, who boasts extensive experience in civil engineering and landscaping, heads the civils team from our Western Cape office. Together, these individuals make up our dynamic management team, which also includes Melandi Ungerer, responsible for accounts and administration.

.kce Consulting takes pride in handling projects of all sizes and levels of complexity, from small social housing schemes to large-scale infrastructure projects or high rise residential schemes across Southern Africa, Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian Ocean Islands. We believe in pushing the boundaries of innovation, as demonstrated by our approach of "Engineering Beyond Conventional Thinking," which applies to every project we undertake. Our top priority is to deliver the most effective solution to the problem at hand, regardless of the project's scope or scale.

Your Future to Engineering Beyond Conventional Thinking lies in your hands

As structural engineers we play a critical role in the projects for which we are appointed. If success is judged simply against the need to provide adequate resistance to collapse, then we are very successful, but the value we can bring to a project goes far beyond that..
